This meticulously crafted, double-sided sterling silver (925) pendant is a classical masterpiece of miniature relief sculpture. With a robust weight of 15g and a diameter of 2.5cm, it possesses a substantial and valuable feel. The front of the medallion presents a powerful, high-relief sculpted scene of the ancient sanctuary on Delos. The key elements are:

• A grand, five-columned Doric temple building (likely a temple of Apollo).

• To the left, a majestic, fully detailed palm tree, a known symbol of Delos and Apollo’s birth, standing next to a smaller, fortified tower or structure.

• At the base, a perfectly aligned row of five (5) high-relief sculpted lions, identical to the famous Lion Terrace on the island, facing left.

• In the upper field, the word “DELOS” is clearly embossed in a classical serif font.

The reverse side offers a dramatic and complex narrative from Delian mythology. The central scene is a powerful high-relief depiction of:

• A large, majestic mythological Sphinx, with the detailed body of a lion, massive, sweeping, feathered wings, and a serene female head with flowing hair. It is perched on a detailed rock formation, facing left.

• Standing before it, also facing left, is a figure in a full classical Greek chiton (tunic), hands clasped in front, looking up at the Sphinx in a pose that suggests contemplation or answering the riddle, evoking the myth of Oedipus and the Sphinx.

• The background features stylized waves below, referencing Delos’s island nature, and a swirling pattern with a stylized crescent moon and smaller stars above, mirroring Side A and framing the high-relief figure of an eagle near the top bail connection, which is a common symbol associated with Apollo.

About our plating methods on silver 925:
We add as a standard a heavy coat of .40 microns 18k Gold plating & .25 microns for white and black rhodium plating .
.40 micro inches is a relatively thick layer of gold plating and will last many years if not a lifetime if you take care of it correctly.
